How to file for Homestead Exemption in Local Texas Counties

What is Homestead Exemption?

Homestead Exemption removes part of your home’s value from taxation, lowering your taxes. For instance, if your home is appraised at $200,000 and you qualify for a $40,000 exemption, you would pay taxes as if your home was only worth $160,000.

When to apply for it?

Regular Residential Homestead Exemption applications should be filed after January 1 and before April 30 after the year you purchased.
